The Silent Statue

Was “cold command” what Shelley saw,

When looking Ramses in the eye?

Dead and gone was man to king —

And statue lived beneath that sky;

He wrote his hate of stone for what

The Pharaoh said without a voice:

‘Greatness has no need for words,

And silence proves speech weakness’ choice.’
